Fortan – caring for animals since 1948

Since 1948, Fortan has stood for tradition, experience and a genuine love of animals. The company was founded by Wolfgang Schmidt-Duisberg in Düsseldorf. What began with high-quality vitamin tablets developed over the decades into a long-established brand for supplementary feeds and care products for dogs, cats and horses.

Today, Fortan is a family-run company based in Wuppertal. Our history has always been closely connected with Germany – from our beginnings in Düsseldorf to the continued development of the company at our present location.

A true family business

Fortan is now managed by Hans-Gerd Heinrichs and Ute Heinrichs. Their daughters, Melanie and Yvonne, are also actively involved in the company. Fortan therefore remains a genuine family business – personal, down-to-earth and close to its customers.

Our love of animals is not just part of our brand; it is part of our everyday life. Four horses, five dogs and six cats belong to our family and are part of life around the company. They remind us every day why the care and well-being of animals matter so much to us.

Supplementary feeds and care products from Germany

Our range includes supplementary feeds for dogs, supplementary feeds for cats, products for horses and selected pet care products. These include trusted classics such as Cafortan as well as many other products for daily feeding, care and targeted nutritional supplementation.

When selecting our products, we focus on carefully chosen raw materials, established formulations and reliable quality. Our goal is to offer products we genuinely stand behind and that pet owners can use with confidence.

Responsibility starts with everyday actions

We also aim to make thoughtful choices when it comes to energy, packaging and shipping. At our site in Wuppertal, we operate our own photovoltaic system, which generates a significant part of the electricity we require. In addition, we use green electricity for our business operations.

We ship our parcels using the DHL GoGreen service. We also regularly review our packaging, shipping processes and internal workflows and continue to develop them where practical improvements are possible.

For us, this is not about making broad promises. It is about taking practical steps and using opportunities that fit our family business and the way we work every day.
